There are three categories of Private Motor Vehicle coverage; Comprehensive covers, Third Party Fire and Theft and Third Party Only.
Comprehensive insurance is a coverage that pays to replace or repair your vehicle if it’s stolen or damaged in a case that’s not a collision. Comprehensive covers damage from fire, vandalism or falling objects (like a tree or hail).
The policy covers you in case of any accidental damage or theft of the vehicle. The policy covers third-party liabilities which could be property, death or injury of persons out of the vehicle in case of an accident.
The comprehensive policy covers the Passenger’s liability excluding the driver, insured and family member of the insured person.
Third Party Fire and Theft
Third Party, Fire and Theft cover is the next level up after the comprehensive cover. The Third Party, Fire and Theft cover gives you all that is associated with the basic third party insurance but also includes cover against fire damage or theft to your own vehicle. The cover provides the Passenger liability excluding the driver, insured and family member of the insured person.
The covers Third party features are included in this category as it covers both property and death or injury of persons out of the vehicle in case of an accident.
Third Party Only
Third-party only insurance offers you the legal minimum level of car insurance cover and is the most basic you’re able to get and mandatory according to the law of Kenya. The policy ensures the protection of other people, vehicles, and property in the event of an accident that is considered as your fault.
The Third-party only policy covers third party liability which is both property damage and death or injury to third party persons.
To ensure your car with any of the three policies, one is required to completely fill a proposal Form, have a copy of their log book; a KRA PIN for the Insured, Motor Valuation and a Premium Payment to kick start the process.
