Welcome to Kenya’s Imaginary 31 Mega Dams, Done and Beautifully Constructed

Welcome to Kenya, the land of the looters of public funds, the land of Huduma Namba, the land of numerous unfilled government promises and the land of people inhabited with the memory of a warthog.

The rains are here, although, according to the meteorological department, they are not here for long. The rains delayed to come and now that they are here, they are likely to last for only a week.

Farmers will not have enough to plant or if they will, not enough moisture to enable germination and support the growth of the crop.

About a month ago, a wise Cabinet Secretary in the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mr. Mwangi Kiunjuri, shocked the nation when he announced that the government would construct a total of 31 days within a period of three weeks (to long rain season then).

31 dams in less than a month. That sounded like a joke. Right? To construct such dams within such a short period of time can only be done through ‘miraculous ways’ or through the ‘brainwashing divine power of Prophet David Owuor.’

It was clear that Mwangi Kiunjuri did not believe in what he himself was saying. In other words, he knew it was impossible but as a politician, he had to say it and deny the outcomes later. Of course, he can always say he was quoted out of context.

It seems as though, as soon as the good minister finished talking, the 31 dams were automatically constructed in his mind. We might be making noise about the dams when already they are existing imaginary.

So, Mr. Mwangi Kiunjuri, where are the 31 dams? Did you think that Kenyans are always gifted with the rare gift of the warthog family and will forget as soon as they turn off the lights to sleep? Oh man, you were wrong. We are awake.

Again, where are the dams? The rains are here. They will soon be leaving. Water is going to waste and we should be harvesting it but, where are the dams? Or maybe we need a Huduma Namba to see them. Ah, maybe the dams can only be seen if one has a Huduma Namba. Right?

It surprises me that the President is keener to seeing the implementation of the Huduma Namba and not seeing that Kenyans are secured in terms of food through the construction of dams. Between being food secure and having a Huduma Namba, which one should come first?

Anyway, welcome to Kenya’s Imaginary 31 mega dams, to see them, please close your eyes and imagine them.
