Shalom Hospital: Facility Accused of Arrogant Nurses on Spotlight over Death of Journalist’s Son

Shalom Hospital in Athi River has hit the limelight for the wrong reasons after leaving a seven-month-old boy dead in what the parents’ term as a serious medical blunder that has cost them their once healthy son.

The health facility was the topic of discussion barely two weeks ago after a woman was filmed giving birth on the bare floor with the person recording accusing nurses at the health facility of sipping their tea while the woman in labor cried for help.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua had noted that County government officials together with the Kenya Medical and Nursing board would pay the health facility a visit to understand the circumstances under which the woman delivered on the floor unassisted.

Shalom Hospital is a privately owned and managed health facility located in Athi River Machakos.

The results of the investigations on the hospital had not even been released before the case of the seven-month-old boy hit the limelight. The seven-month-old boy, Ethan Muendo, a son to Jonathan Musau, KBC’s journalist, had been taken to the Shalom facility on Sunday, 5th May, after suffering minor burns on Saturday, 4th May, according to his parents.

Ethan Muendo had his minor burn wounds cleaned and treated at Shalom Hospital where he was also injected with a painkiller medication according to his parents but two hours after the injection, the boy died.

“We were told to wait for 20 minutes. The nurse then washed and dressed the wound. We went home but the child was weak,” Juliana Mutheu, Ethan’s mother explained adding that she witnessed her son receiving an injection.
