Olunga Hands Kenya The Bragging Rights After 3-2 Win over Tanzania

Kenya now owns the bragging rights against close neighbours Tanzania thanks to Michael Olunga’s superb performance following a dramatic comeback in the AFCONs tournament.

The Tanzanian team alias Taifa Stars started off the match with a thud, but as most football specialists would say, football is unpredictable. The lads ended up losing 3 goals to 2 in Kenya’s favour.

Taifa Stars efforts to score bore fruits at the fifth minute as they got an opener which came from one and only Simon Msuva’s tap-in. Michael Olunga responded with an overhead kick to equalize in the 39th minute.

Before the half-time mark, the Tanzanians were back to leading after a Mbwana Samatta’s effort and the goal saw the team leading at half-time.

The Kenyan side looked to have put themselves together in the second half and this was evident when Johanna Omolo flicked in a header at the near post.

What the headlines read later on was Olunga as the man of the moment when he struck a low shot with his left foot and all could be seen was the ball hitting the back of the net.

It ended as a five-goal-thriller at the 30 June stadium and the results saw Kenya level with Senegal on points but with a goal difference in favour of Senegal in group C.

The Harambee Stars still have their hopes high as a win or a draw against Senegal could see them advancing to the knockout stages. Close neighbours Tanzania would exit the tournament still looking for their first victory.

Kenya will play their final group match against Senegal on Monday at 1100 EAT.
