Wednesday is a public holiday, Government Declares

The government, through a gazette notice, has declared Wednesday, June 5, 2019, as a public holiday in respect to Muslim’s celebration of the Eid-Ul-Fitr holiday which marks the end of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i announced the public holiday on Monday through the gazette notice.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, declares that Wednesday, 5th June 2019, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr,” the notice reads.

The Eid al Fitr festival is marked with the start of the Eid prayer followed by the Eid greetings and Eid Mubarak, a formal embrace done thrice.

The day brings to a close a period of fast among Muslim faithful’s who hence indulge in eating and gifting each other.
