Irony As Kenya Uses Ksh 100 Million To Send The Largest Delegation Of MPs To US

Kenya is a country that thrives on ironies, a country ruled by the corrupt and gluttony who are always looking for ways to milk the taxpayer to the core.

As Kenya struggles to reduce the ballooning spending of public funds on salaries and allowances, Kenyan legislators are doing exactly the opposite just to prove that Kenya “has money to waste.”

It has emerged that Kenya is sending the largest delegation in the world of 85 including Members of Parliament, MCAs and staff to the US to attend a legislative assembly called National Conference of State Legislatures.

As Kenya sends 85, Nigeria will only be sending 20 representatives while all the other countries are sending a maximum of 6.

Indonesia is sending one delegate, Portugal will be represented by two delegates while Japan will have six.

Taxpayers will be forced to cough out more than 100 million shillings to pay for the plane tickets, hotels, and allowances for the huge delegation in an event where only one representative was enough.

Both Speakers of the National Assembly and the Senate will be leading the delegation. Each speaker will receive at least 75,000 per day while on the “mission”, MPs to pocket 65,000 and MCA 42,600 shillings.

Wasting of Public Resources

The trip to the US by Kenyan legislators comes at a time the Jubilee government has been pretending to cut on wasteful spending.

At least 56 percent of Kenya’s revenue goes into paying of salaries and allowances for public servants with most legislators taking advantage to earn more allowances from the taxpayer.

The trip also comes at a time President Uhuru Kenyatta had announced a raft of measures to take the ballooning public wage bill that has seen the government spending less on development projects.

The trip also comes at a time the country is literally surviving on the wheels of debt with the public debt hitting 5.83 trillion shillings.
