Nairobi Residents to Pay Ksh 50 for Chicken Slaughters in Proposed Bill

Nairobi residents might be required to start paying a monthly fee of 50 shillings, for every chicken slaughtered if the proposed bill tabled by the county government of Nairobi is passed.

For any chicken slaughter done anywhere near your house, you will have to pay 50 shillings as tax to the Nairobi County Government.

The Nairobi county Finance Bill 2019, will also require slum residents to pay 100 shillings per month to the county authority as revenue.

According to the bill, all slum occupants will have to acquire fire extinguishers in their houses and failure will attract some penalties.

The Mama Mbogas will source the county with 200 shillings per month and risk paying a fine of 50 shillings if incase they make late payments.

Worship centers will not be left out of the hook as churches and mosques will have to pay 10,000 shillings every month in the form of revenue to the county.

A Kibera resident made an outcry that this bill is not fair and that he will mobilize people not to accept the bill.

“Even churches and mosques that have never been taxed in any part of the world will now have to pay revenues to the government.”

“we will, therefore, mobilize the churches and the mosques to reject the bill,” he lamented.

Most Nairobi residents were not made aware of the bill and the county notified a few people to attend a public participation forum in Lang’ata last week. The meeting flopped as only 18 people attended the meeting.

The public participation and opinion about the bill were supposed to be done by representatives of ten wards from Lang’ata and Kibra constituencies as Sidi Otieno, a Bunge La Mwananchi rep says.

The county finance bill has since been met by wide criticisms and Mr. Otieno has even filed a petition in court saying, it is not conducted in a right and fair manner.
