Ex-President Daniel Moi Recuperating in Nairobi Hospital’s ICU

Kenya’s former and second President Daniel Moi has been placed in the Nairobi Hospital in the ICU.

President Moi was placed in the hospital’s ICU after he developed breathing problems.

Moi is the longest-serving President of Kenya, having been in the office for 24years after the demise of Kenya’s first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who is the current president’s father.

Moi was reportedly admitted at the Nairobi hospital on Thursday but it was on only until Monday, 28th October 2019, that it became of public knowledge.

Moi’s Press Secretary, Lee Njiru had earlier confirmed Mzee Moi had indeed visited the Nairobi Hospital on Monday, 28th October 2019, but he termed it as a “routine medical check-up.”

Mzee Moi’s press secretary downplayed concern from the press saying it was indeed prudent and advisable that everybody should go for a medical check-up. It is now emerging that former President Daniel Moi is in Nairobi Hospital’s restricted Private Wing ICU.

It is only a select few that are allowed to access former President Moi as his personal Doctor, David Silverstein, leads a team of Doctors in attending to him.

Moi’s health has been under strict monitoring given his age and prominent nature as Kenya’s second president.
President Moi had earlier retired to his Kabarak home but had to transfer to his Nairobi home in Kabarnet Gardens in search of treatment.

Moi has been receiving guests at his Kabarak home most of whom are prominent politicians in the country.

Moi’s health first became of concern in May 2019 when it emerged that he was not well enough to attend his son’s, Jonathan Moi, burial at Eldama Ravine. Mzee Moi stayed in the car at Eldama Ravine during Jonathan’s burial.

Mzee Moi was born on 2nd September 1924 in Sacho and is currently 95 years of age.
