Motorists have every reason to smile, at least for the next one month after the prices of both diesel and petrol dropped in the new announcement by Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

The price of Diesel has decreased by 4.76 shillings per liter while that of Super Petrol has gone down by 1.08 shillings on every liter purchased.

Households that use kerosene for both heating and lighting have nothing to smile about as the price increased by 0.44 shillings on every liter.

“The pump prices are inclusive of 8 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 109 of 9th July 2019,” said EPRA in a statement.

The changes in this month’s fuel prices have been pegged on the average landed cost. The average landed cost of Super Petrol decreased by 7.66 percent from 497.36 US Dollars per cubic meter in August to 459.27 US Dollars per cubic meter in September 2019.

“The landed cost of Diesel decreased by 2.32 percent from 503.61 US Dollars per cubic meter to 491.94 US Dollars per cubic meter,” said the commission.

The average landed cost of kerosene increased by 0.47 percent from 484.29 US Dollars per cubic meter to 486.55 US Dollars per cubic meter.

Residents of Nairobi will pay 108.05 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 101.96 shillings for a liter of Diesel and 101.08 shillings for a liter of Kerosene.

Those in Thika and Machakos will be paid a similar amount for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene at 108.18 shillings for Super Petrol, 102.10 shillings for Diesel and 101.21 shillings for Kerosene.

Mombasa residents will pay the lowest amount due to their proximity to the distribution point. They will part with 105.44 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 99.35 shillings for a liter of Diesel and 98.47 shillings for a liter of Kerosene.

Those in Nakuru will pay 108.56 shillings for every liter of Super Petrol, 102 shillings for every liter of Diesel and 101.78 shillings for every liter of Kerosene.

Eldoret residents will part with 109.56 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 103.66 shillings for a liter of Diesel and 102.79 shillings for a liter of Kerosene.
