More Than 13,000 Census Workers Still Staring at Empty Bank Accounts

The Census process was concluded two months ago but some 13,428 workers including enumerators and ICT supervisors have not yet received their dues.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was at the forefront congratulating all the stakeholders that were involved in the national counting process, but did he have an idea that some of the workers were still waiting to receive their pays?

The Census Results are now out, the stakeholders who rendered their services passionately can now see the fruits of their labour but they cannot eat the numbers.

During the seven-day census exercise, the workers were very sure that since they were working for the government and they were indeed doing a very critical job, they would receive their cheques at the end of the process.

Well, it is two months down the line but they have not seen any notification that sounds like it is accompanied with some cash.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, however, said that they are aware of the delays and it is because some workers did not submit the required documents for their payments to be processed in due time.

Some Census workers did not return the devices that they were given by KNBS such as gadgets and accessories, forcing the agency to block their payments.

“The payment process involves confirmation of personnel who worked, verification of the account details, and inspection of returned mobile devices and their accessories to confirm that they are still functional,” the KNBS Director General Zachary Mwangi stated.

Since August, only census workers from 43 counties have received their pays but those in four counties are still busy claiming their dues.
Maybe the last laugh is always the best!
