29 Confirmed Dead After An Aircraft Crashed In Goma, DRC

At least 29 people killed in a small plane crash in the City of Goma in the eastern DR Congo after it failed to take off.

19 survivors, including 17 passengers and two crew members were rushed to the hospital along with the 16 others that were injured on the ground,’ said the North Kivu Regional Government.

The statement added that ‘at this stage, only 29 bodies have been recovered in the rubble’

According to the deputy transport minister, Jacques Yuma Kipuya earlier said that the Busy Bee Dornier -228 smashed into two houses near the airport.

The Busy Bee is a recently established company that has three planes serving routes in the North Kivu Province.

Heritier Said Mamadou, staff on the Busy Bee confirmed that 19 were on board the flight scheduled to take off at around 0700 GMT.

The North Kivu Governor Carly Nzanzu Kavita said in a statement that the pilot ‘failed in his take-off’ also one of the airline’s maintenance workers at the site quoted by the news site actualite.cd blamed a ‘technical problem’.

The UN mission deployed in DR Congo, MONUSCO, sent two fire engineers to the site to support the local rescue teams.
