9000 Students To Have Their Form One Fees Fully Paid By Government

Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2019 candidates who would like to benefit from the government’s Elimu Scholarship Programme have until 16th December to make their applications.
The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof. George Magoha announced that the government would sponsor 9,000 needy forms one student in the program that has been funded by the Ministry of Education.
The scholarships, funded by the ministry of education with support from the World Bank, and which is set to be implemented through the Equity Group Foundation will be awarded to 18.000 secondary school needy students.
“The Ministry of education has set aside three billion shillings, which we intend to use to sponsor up to 80,000 needy secondary school students, 9,000 being form ones. We urge parents with needy children to make do their part as applications were already made open,” said Magoha.
Magoha said that no needy child should miss school because of a lack of school fees as it has been repeatedly witnessed before in the country, and that was the reason that the amount was set aside.

“We will ensure that the process of selection is done as it should. We will make sure that beneficiaries of this program are selected based on merit,” said Mr. Mwangi.
Mr. Mwangi said he was happy that the Elimu Scholarship Programme will help ensure more children get access to secondary schools and even university in the future, making reference with Equity Group’s Wings to Fly Programme which has achieved the same.
Elimu Scholarship Programme is open to only students who sat for KCPE in 2019, and who are vulnerable and from poor families who attained 280 marks or above.
