A pastor, Mr. Elisha Misiko aged 55 years, has left the congregants of Ground for God’s Gospel Ministries at Chembani shocked after he stabbed his wife to death at their church altar on Sunday 5th January 2019.

Mr Elisha Misiko, the founding church pastor of Ground for God’s Gospel Ministries is said to have walked into church at around 9am on Sunday morning and attacked his wife, Ms Ann Mghoi, who was at the time addressing congregants.

According to family, friends and congregants at the church, the pastor stabbing his wife and slitting his own throat came after a long-running family dispute over ownership and management of the church.

“The two had been running the church for more than eight years but in the last few months, they differed over management,” a church elder said referring to the conflict that had led the pastor to commit suicide after killing his wife at their church altar.

Pastor Elisha Misiko had accused his wife and mother of his four children of plotting to edge him out of the church which he claimed to have founded.

Mr. Misiko is reported to have sat at the pulpit, a few steps behind his wife who was leading the service and rose from his seat as if he was going to consult Ms Mghoi, his wife, only to attack her using two knives he’d hidden under his shirt.

“The husband moved stealthily on the pulpit towards his wife and stabbed her in the back. When he tried to slit her throat, she blocked him, injuring her hand,”an elder and member of the church explained.

Mr Misiko is said to have stabbed his wife, Ms Mghoi, several times before the shocked congregants intervened and rushed her to the Coast General Hospital, where she passed away while being treated.

It is in the confusion of rescuing the pastor’s wife, Ms Mghoi that Mr Misiko, the husband slit his throat, dying instantly.

Confirming the incident, the Kisauni Sub-county Police Commander Julius Kiragu said the woman had stab wounds on her back, hand and stomach revealing that the attack was premeditated as the suicide note revealed.

The Pastor’s Suicide Note

Pastor Misiko did leave a suicide note behind where he accused his wife of belittling him, barring him from meeting their four children and sidelining him when it came to the management of the church which he claimed to have founded through a loan.

“The two reported their family wrangles at our stations a number of times. The matter is still under investigation but we can reveal that the two had marital disputes for months,” Kisauni Sub-county Police Commander Julius Kiragu said.

“A number of people have recorded statements. We can confirm the incident was due to the wife trying to edge the husband out of the church, which he struggled to build,” Mr. Kiragu noted.

The pastor died at the church and his body was taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary according to police officers while his wife died at about 1pm while being attended to at the Coast hospital.
