Chinese Patient Isolated in Kisumu Hospital Over Corona-like Symptoms

The Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu is yet to confirm whether a Chinese patient will test positive for the deadly coronavirus or not.

The Chinese patient was admitted to the Kisumu hospital after he fell sick and was later taken to isolation as he presented Corona-like symptoms.

Doctors at the facility said the patient was being treated for pneumonia but samples have been taken to Nairobi to affirm that the patient is indeed not infected with Coronavirus.

The Chinese national who works at Ugunja in Siaya County is said to have been taken to the Agha Khan hospital by an unidentified woman.

The patient was dressed in protective gear as soon as he was admitted to the hospital to prevent further spread of the coronavirus if in any case he was infected.

The final results of the test are expected to be out on Friday, February 21, 2020.

This is the third case that has so far been reported in Kenya but no test has come out positive. All the suspected cases have only involved Chinese nationals.

The report comes just hours after the Ministry Of Health confirmed that it had received aid from China to help counter the spread of the coronavirus.

“The Ministry of Health today received medical supplies worth Sh1 million from the Kenya- China Economic Association to help in the prevention of coronavirus disease,” announced the Ministry on Friday, February 21, 2020.

At the beginning of the week, a patient of Chinese origin was admitted to a hospital in Kitui with fears that he was infected with Coronavirus but the test results came out negative.

Since the outbreak of the disease, 27 more countries have confirmed cases of infection outside China where it first originated. Egypt is the only African country that has confirmed a case of the virus.

According to Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, over 10 million people could die if the spread of the disease is not suppressed.

Bill Gates argued that health facilities in Africa are not ready to counter the infections by the virus, something that could wreak havoc if the disease hits the continent.

Coronavirus has so far claimed the lives of over 2000 people globally, with over 70,000 confirmed infections. Some experts say the number could be higher since cities like Beijing are blamed to have concealed the true number.
