The Ministry of Health, through the Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, has confirmed the first positive case of Coronavirus here in Kenya.

This comes after speculations and numerous claims that coronavirus was already in Kenya and that the government was hiding the truth.

According to CS Mutahi Kagwe, the positive case is from a woman who came from the U.S. and travelled through London into JKIA, Nairobi.

Mutahi Kagwe has urged Kenyans not to panic and to remain vigilant so as to control the spread of coronavirus.

“The case was confirmed yesterday (Thursday). She was confirmed positive by the National Influenza Lab,” he said.

The woman in question is 27 years old and a Kenyan Citizen. She travelled from Ohio, through to Chicago, London and ended up in Nairobi. In each of those areas, thermal scanners were run.

According to the CS, the Kenyan woman took herself to the hospital after she started experiencing symptoms of the virus.

In a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus, Mutahi Kagwe has said that all public rallies have been banned and prison visits suspended for 30 days.

The CS has trashed views that Africans cannot contract the virus and has called on Kenyans to be vigilant and take measures to protect themselves.

The patient has been isolated at the Kenyatta National Hospital in a special ward.
