Kenya Records 16 New Cases Of Covid-19, Total Number Up To 142

Kenya has reported 16 new cases of the deadly Coronavirus taking the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the country to 142.

On Saturday, the government announced only 4 cases and there was some sigh of relief that the rate of infections was flattening but within 24 hours, the number spiked by 16.

Nine of the 16 new cases of Coronavirus is for people in government quarantine facilities. On Saturday, the government extended the quarantine duration by further 14 days in government facilities following continuous confirmed cases.

The government, through the Ministry of Transport has extended the ban on international flights by 30 more days and the number in fresh cases continues to increase.

According to the government, more than 50 percent of confirmed cases are from people who are in quarantine. CS Mutahi Kagwe had earlier said that some of the people placed under quarantine went on a partying spree and did not observe the social distance measures leading to the spread.

The government has since kicked off massive testing for the deadly virus for all individuals in quarantine facilities. There are calls on the government to roll out mass testing for Kenyans as soon as possible to prevent a massive breakout that will in turn overwhelm the available health facilities.
