MultiChoice Partners With WHO To Inform Kenyans On Covid-19

In response to the coronavirus outbreak, MultiChoice Group has announced various measures towards supporting the global public health crisis.
Since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus a public health crisis in January, MultiChoice Group has been working to ensure its DStv and GOtv viewers have access to accurate and reliable information from across the globe.
MultiChoice has already put in place several measures to ensure it combats misinformation about COVID-19 by keeping subscribers up-to-date and continuously connected to avoid dashes and gaps of misleading information.
Together with the WHO, MultiChoice has produced a public service announcement (PSA) to constantly remind subscribers about precautionary measures to reduce the spread and transmission of the virus. The PSA debunks false claims and conveys factual information related to the spread of the virus. The announcement will be aired to all DStv and GOtv customers across both platforms. The PSA will also be published on our social media platforms on DStv (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and GOtv (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) which reach over 2 Million Kenyans across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
As the Ministry of Health, the government and other health enforcement agencies issue new WHO guidance and warnings about coronavirus (COVID-19), our international news and free-to-air channels on our platforms will connect people to information from both national and local health organizations in both English and vernacular languages and limit the spread of misinformation and harmful content about the virus.
“We have restructured our content offering to ensure we provide our viewers with the most accurate, relevant and up-to-date information through a number of news channels. We have made all our news channels available to DStv customers across all the DStv packages and added six live news channels for our customers to stream on our Showmax platform at no additional cost,” said MultiChoice Kenya Managing Director, Nancy Matimu.
We understand that in order to adequately support the timely delivery of information, we need to keep our systems stable and our subscribers connected. In response to this need, we have prioritized our self-service platforms to ensure customers are able to manage their viewing options from their mobile devices.
With the *423# USSD platform, customers can buy, pay, reconnect or clear error codes from their mobile phones. The MyDStv and MyGOtv apps have also been designed to enable customers to make payments, change their packages to suit their viewing needs, easily clear errors and download the DStv Now app to view on the go.
As this global public health crisis advances and more people are having to stay at home, we understand that millions of Kenyans will continue to rely on our services to stay informed. We hope that DStv and GOtv will become the number one undisputed source of news and information for all Kenyans during this time, especially accurate and approved messages provided by our partner, the World Health Organization.
