Kenyan e-commerce platform Gobeba has added a COVID-19 e-commerce category on its platform to allow for Kenyans to access all protective gear as they find alternatives to protect themselves from the virus with minimal interaction. This follows a directive by the government that all Kenyans should wear masks in public places.

The category will now let Kenyan purchase surgical masks, gloves, and sanitizers and have them delivered at the shoppers’ doorstep with the aid of Gobeba delivery agents. A packet of 3PL surgical mask cost Ksh. 1000 for 10 pieces and Ksh. 5,000 for 50 pieces.

Mr. Peter Ndiang’ui, Gobeba CEO and Co-Founder noted that there has been a high demand and need for genuine surgical masks, hence the need to have a dedicated category that will provide access to these items to shoppers at their doorstep, through the platform.

“We have since noted a demand for genuine COVID-19 protective gear by some of our shoppers soon after an announcement was made to have all Kenyans wear protective masks. It is for this reason that we have launched a COVID-19 e-commerce category that conveniently lets shoppers purchases genuine protective gear from our platform. We believe that the only way to mitigate spread is to avail these items to shoppers and have them delivered at their doorstep conveniently.” Mr. Peter Ndiang’ui, CEO and Co-Founder GoBeba noted.”

The platform is working with various suppliers to import genuine protective gear to Kenyans at an affordable price with increased demand in the past week with many Kenyans trooping online to purchase these items.

“With an influx in demand for these items, we are working with suppliers to have all the protective gear as and when clients need them to meet this demand. We ran out of our first batch of masks in a day and have since stocked up to meet the needs of all Kenyans through our platform. All our protective gear items meet all the requirements that will help reduce virus spread from one person to the other.” Mr. Ndiang’ui added.

The platform seeks to add more items that will help Kenyans even as they seek ways and means to protect themselves during this period.

Recently, Gobeba indicated an increase in groceries, gas, and alcohol by 200 percent, 100 percent and 50 percent respectively, an indication that most Kenyans are moving online in pursuit of foodstuff and other household items.
