President Trump Temporarily Bans Foreign Immigration To The US

Any foreigner seeking to have permanent status in the United States will have to wait for 60 days to make such an application.

This is according to the recent announcement by President Donald Trump who said new immigrants will be given chances to apply for permanent statuses after the effects of Coronavirus on the economy are reviewed.

President Trump said the immigration ban could extend if Coronavirus continues to bite but did not speak about those whose applications are currently being processed.

Trump said the move seeks to reduce competition on American workers from foreigners by barring work or citizenship applications after the Covid-19 spread is contained.

“By pausing immigration, we will help put unemployed Americans first in line for jobs as America reopens – so important,” Donald Trump said.

“It would be wrong and unjust for Americans laid off by the virus to be replaced with new immigrant labor flown in from abroad. We must first take care of the American worker.”

President Trump said the ban will only apply to those seeking permanent statuses and not those going to the US temporarily.

“This order will only apply to individuals seeking a permanent residency. In other words, those receiving green cards. Big factor. It will not apply to those entering temporarily… We want to protect our US workers and I think, as we move forward, we will become more and more protective of them.”

However, critics say President’s Trump directive ignores the situation at hand which is to deal with the spread of Coronavirus.

“Rather than execute a swift and aggressive effort to ramp up testing, Donald Trump is tweeting incendiary rhetoric about immigrants in the hopes that he can distract everyone from the core truth: he’s moved too slowly to contain this virus, and we are all paying the price for it,” Joe Biden said.

The US which is currently the epicenter of Coronavirus has recorded 819,175 cases with 45,343 deaths and 82,973 recoveries.
