COVID-19 Update: 123 New Cases, Nairobi 85 As Mathare Records 33

Kenya on 27th May 2020 has recorded the highest ever number of infections at 123 new COVID-19 cases dramatically raising the number of confirmed cases to 1471 according to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe.

The 123 new COVID-19 cases are out of 3,077 samples tested in the last 24 hours with the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe raising an alarm that the country has registered a triple-figure for the first time since 13th March 2020.

“Kenyans in the informal settlement areas are going back onto their old habits which is placing more lives in the areas at risk,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has noted.

The 123 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases are spread out across the country with Nairobi leading with a worrying 85 cases while Mombasa follows with 24 cases and Kiambu four cases and two from Kisumu county.

The 85 Nairobi cases include 33 new cases in Mathare, 14 from Kibra, 12 from Embakasi West and four from Embakasi Central with Health CS Mutahi Kagwe noting that the Mathare cases are a cause for concern given the high population in the area.

Mombasa county which has recorded 24 cases are spread out with 9 from Mvita and 4 from Changamwe with Mvita being seen to be recording a continues to rise in cases.

Kiambu which has lately been reporting COVID-19 cases has today reported for with Kabete, Kikuyu, Ruiru, and Juja reporting one case each respectively according to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe.

“On a sad note, we have lost 3 more patients to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours with the first two patients have been battling Diabetes while the third patient was battling breast cancer,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said adding that the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 now stands at 55 in total.

The youngest of the COVID-19 patient to be reported in the last 24 hours is a one-year-old while the eldest is a 78-year-old male with all the 1,471 cases currently spread out in 35 hospitals across the country.

“COVID-19 is a very lonely disease, none has ever been as lonely as this, you die lonely and cannot be surrounded by any family or friends,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said urging Kenyans to stick to the set measures to avoid them having to go for more strict measures.
