KQ Lowers Prices For Chartered Planes To Evacuate Kenyans

Kenya Airways has reduced prices of tickets for chartered planes and it is now charging the normal rate to ensure Kenyans stranded abroad are evacuated.

The KQ planes were scheduled to arrive in Kenya at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport between May 4 and May 8, 2020, carrying passengers from London, Mumbai, and Guangzhou. However, KQ only allows passengers who test negative to board the planes.

KQ said passengers will board the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which has the capacity for carrying up to 335 passengers and will charge them 53,495 shillings (500 dollars) for a one-way ticket to those from London.

This price is cheaper as compared to the 48,215 shillings (96,430 shillings two-way) which were earlier being charged for the Charter planes.

Passengers from Mumbai and Quanzhou will pay 46,005 shillings (430 dollars) and 80,242 shillings (750 shillings) respectively for the one-way tickets.

Parents accompanied by infants will pay an additional 10 percent of the adult rate.

“London flight is scheduled for May 4 while Mumbai and Guangzhou flights will leave on May 7 and May 8 respectively,” announced the national carrier.

KQ said only passengers who are free from Covid-19 will be allowed to board the planes and they should present their medical clearance documents from a certified Health facility.

The Passengers will then be subjected to a mandatory quarantine at a Government facility upon arrival.

“Guest with a pre-medical condition(s) that restrict travel must obtain medical clearance form and complete medical form prior to travel.”

“We thank KQ for this special commercial flight, taking Kenyans stranded in the UK back home to be reunited with their families. Two similar flights this week will take home Kenyans stranded in India and China,” said the Kenya High Commission London.
