How To File KRA Returns As Only 5 Days Left To Deadline

Have you filed your returns with the KRA yet? Well, if you have not, you only have 5 days starting today to give back to Caesar what should belong to him or risk a fine.
In case you are among the Kenyans that do not file returns, please be informed that your penalties will keep on filing and will soon catch up with you when you find yourself in need of a compliance certificate.
The Kenya Revenue Authority has continually reminded Kenyans to file their 2019 annual tax returns before the 30th June deadline, but news regarding the coronavirus pandemic has to capture more attention.
Filing returns are divided into various sections according to one’s source of livelihood with the unemployed expected to file Nil Returns lest they attract a fine.
The category of filing returns for the employed can now take place through the use of the auto-populated function on iTax where essential details required are pension contribution, mortgage interest, and Home Ownership Savings Plan.
Other details required while employed people are filing returns are insurance relief, exemption certificate for persons living with a disability, and personal relief where it is appliable.
When you file a Nil return, then it means you had no income during the 2019 year and so were not eligible to pay taxes.
Those filing Nil Returns have had the process further simplified as they can now easily submit a nil return using the iTax mobile application which is available on Google Play Store.
The pandemic has hit the country at a time when the annual tax returns filing exercise starts to gather momentum but you should be careful not to get distracted as whether or not there is COVID-19, failing to file your returns will attract a penalty.
