Nairobi Hospital Drops Jubilee Insurance Over Ksh 357 Million Debt

BY Juma · June 20, 2020 10:06 pm

The Nairobi Hospital has dropped Jubilee Insurance from its list of cover providers over claims of more than 357 million shillings.

According to Nairobi Hospital, the Jubilee Insurance has not settled claims dating back to 2018.

“In the light of this, the Hospital wishes to inform you that your account will be suspended effectively from Thursday June 18, 2020,” said a letter sent to Jubilee Insurance.

In 2018 and 2019, Jubilee Insurance owed the Nairobi Hospital 33 and 47.8 million shillings respectively. In 2020, owes 96 million shillings and says all the invoices have not been honoured by Jubilee Insurance.

Nairobi Hospital says hospitals are operating on constraint budgets and that it is unfair for Jubilee to take premiums from their customers but fail to remit when they need them the most.

The announcement means patients with Jubilee Insurance will not be allowed to seek medication at Nairobi Hospital. It is not clear whether Jubilee Insurance has backtracked on payments for other hospitals as well.

Last week, insurers announced that they will no longer be paying bills for Covid-19 patients who will look for services in private hospitals. The move was aimed at protecting insurance companies in the event of increased number of claims.
