USAID Set To Withdraw Ksh 400 Billion From KEMSA

They say Covid-19 started in China as a virus, landed in Italy as a pandemic, and came to Kenya as corruption. Senior officials both within and without the government of Kenya have become overnight billionaires and millionaires as they loot from Covid-19 patients.

The recent weeks have been dominated by news of massive corruption at the Ministry of Health through KEMSA that has turned into hell, stealing from the poor and the vulnerable as they dance on their graves and drive heavy cars over them.

It is said that senior officials including senators are winning tenders of supplying absolutely nothing and be paid millions of shillings from the donor funds meant to help the poor in the country.

As the looting spree continues, two key donors have threatened to withdraw up to 400 billion shillings earmarked for Kenya following the massive corruption and looting of Covid-19 funds linked to KEMSA.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Fund have already written to the government expressing concerns over the mounting corruption with no one being prosecuted for it.

Sources indicate that KEMSA cannot account for at least 42 billion shillings with the majority of it having been lost through unscrupulous procurement procedures that saw people awarded tenders and paid without supplying anything.

At the same time, KEMSA is said to have a stock of medicine worth 6 billion shillings that is nearing expiry but cannot sell it because they bought it at inflated prices. The only way to sell them off is at a loss but the agency is still mute about the issue.

So far, as the people continue to curse and leaving everything in the hands of Karma to deal with the corrupt, nobody has been arrested over the looting. Corruption now seems to be the order of the day and something that is accepted within the government.
