Kenya Airways has granted healthcare workers an offer to book tickets with the airline and get up to 50 percent off in Business and Economy class.

“Eligibility to buy air ticket at 50 percent discount requires that one must be a frontline health worker i.e. nurses, doctors and clinical researchers with a health worker identification which must be shown at the time of purchase and at check-in,” said KQ on Tuesday.

According to Kenya Airways, the offer is available from September 30 and allows health workers to book tickets at a 50% discount on any of KQ’s 20 destinations.

The national airline said on Tuesday that airfares would be going at a 50 percent discount for the workers on the frontline with the aim of appreciating them for the work well done while dealing with the pandemic.

Kenya Airways said that health workers can only be permitted up to two free changes and that cancellations or refunds before departure are permitted free of charge, not permitted after departure.

The Airline said that healthcare workers will be required to present their IDs for scanning during the process, for clarity. KQ added that health workers must abide by the guidelines and protocols put in place by the Ministry of Health and civil aviation authorities.

Kenya Airways (KQ) resumed its domestic flights on Wednesday 15 July 2020, following the lifting of the restriction of movement in and out of Nairobi and Mombasa counties as directed by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In the first 6 months of 2020, the airline has reported 14.7 billion shillings in losses. This is a 67 percent increase in losses as compared to a similar period in 2019 where losses stood at 8 billion shillings.

The national carrier said last week that the passenger numbers dropped by 55.5 percent to 1.1 million in contrast with 2.4 million over the same period last year, hurting revenues.
