US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for Covid-19. The President broke the news in a tweet early on Friday.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for covid-19, We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this together!” Trump tweeted.

He said that both he and Melania Trump were now awaiting their own test results after Hope Hicks, his close adviser.  Earlier, Trump said he and the US first lady were in quarantine after one of his closest aides tested positive for coronavirus.

“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for covid-19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!” Trump tweeted Thursday night.

The 31-year-old adviser to the president is the closest aide to Mr. Trump to test positive so far. She traveled with him on Air Force One to a TV debate in Ohio earlier this week. MS Hicks was pictured getting off the presidential jet on Tuesday in Cleveland without a mask.

“Rest assured I expect the president to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments,” the statement said.

While it’s unclear what the President’s quarantine process will look like, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines state that a 14-day quarantine should take place after the last known exposure to someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.
