Senior KDF Officer Found Selling Counterfeit Water In Kisumu

A company owned by a senior Kenya Defence Forces officer in Kisumu has been raided after it was found to be selling counterfeit water.

According to officers who conducted the raid, Marina Splash water contains a fake excise duty stamp. They said the water is always packaged at night and delivered to events early in the morning.

The officer, Joseph Omondi is said to have been doing so to evade paying taxes with the officers who conducted the raid, led by Daniel Wanyoike saying plans are underway to revoke his company’s permit.

The value of water recovered was estimated to be at 35,000 shillings. A roll of fake excise stamps was also confiscated.

Kenya Revenue Authority has been on the road, hunting down tax evaders in a desperate effort to meet revenue targets in the wake of a heavy debt burden weighing heavily on the shoulders of the Jubilee government.

Kenya’s debt now stands way above 10.4 trillion shillings, above the ceiling set by the Kenyan Senate at 9 trillion shillings. Plans are underway to raise the ceiling to 12 trillion shillings.

KRA has always been blamed for always falling behind in revenue collection coupled with corruption from officials who collude with tax evaders around the country.
