Government Releases Over Kshs. 8b to Support Inua Jamii Program

Each of the Beneficiaries will get 8,000 shillings being payments for March, April, May, and June this year. The payments will be credited into the accounts of the duly registered beneficiaries beginning Monday 14th of July 2021.

The government has released over 8 billion shillings for the Inua Jamii program.

Nelson Marwa who is the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Social Protection yesterday said that the payments will be credited into the accounts of the duly registered beneficiaries beginning Monday 14th of July 2021.

Each of the Beneficiaries will get 8,000 shillings being payments for March, April, May, and June this year.

Inua Jamii cash transfer program is a government cash transfer program that supports the vulnerable members of the community by providing them with a stipend to cushion them from poverty and hunger to improve their livelihoods.

This program majorly targets the orphans and the vulnerable children, the older persons, and the persons with severe disabilities in the community.

Note that the payment will only be for those beneficiaries that are already enrolled in the program and have their accounts successfully submitted to the Consolidated Cash Program Management Information System.

The government has also added 26.3 million shillings as top-up payment to 12054 Nutrition improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) Complementary program beneficiaries.

The NICHE Complementary program targets households with children under two years, pregnant and lactating mothers who are already enrolled in the Inua Jamii cash transfer program from Marsabit, Turkana, Kitui, Kwale, and West Pokot counties.

The Inua Jamii beneficiaries who are also enrolled under NICHE will receive an additional Ksh. 4000 per household.

Beneficiaries can access all or part of the amount at any time over six months. They are therefore advised that the amount will remain in their accounts for six months hence there won’t be a need for all of them to rush to the bank to collect the money at the same time now that covid 19 is still a pandemic in the country.
