Nairobi to Interrupt Water Supply for 24-Hours to Facilitate Expressway Construction

The construction of the Expressway has caused water shortage on several occasions in the city leaving the people to purchase water for daily use from the water bousers.

Water supply in the Central Business District and its environs will be shut down for 24 hours from July 15 to 16 due to the ongoing construction of the Express Highway.

According to a public notice released by Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd, the shutdown will facilitate the interconnection of the new and old water pipelines on Uhuru Highway between Haile Selassie Avenue and Bunyala Road junction.

“NCWSC will shut down the water supply pipeline along the Uhuru Highway due to ongoing construction of the Expressway Mombasa Road starting from 6 am Thursday 15th July 2021 to Friday 16th July 2021 at 6 am,” the notice read.

Areas likely to be affected include south B, South C, University of Nairobi Main campus, Coca-Cola factory, JKIA, Athi River and the whole of Industrial area, Areas along Jogoo Road like city stadium, Maringo, Bahati, Buru Buru, and its surrounding estates

The construction of the Expressway has caused shortages on several occasions in the city leaving the people to purchase water for daily use from the water bousers.

The company has however urged the affected customers to use the available water as they will be working to restore the normal situation.

In an earlier statement, the company said that the construction of conduit pipes is at 90 percent, meaning it’s almost done. It further added that customers do not need to worry about the shortages anymore since the normal supply will be restored once the relocation is complete.
