Do You Have A Big Team Or A Huge Mob?

KEY POINTS
Sometimes we feel we have a team but in the real sense, it is a huge mob that we have. There is a huge difference between a team and a mob.
Everyone loves to have a team and to be in charge of a team. Let us call it a team for now. But the illusion of having a “team” ends up making us forget the real essence of a “team”. Look at your team, are you proud? Are you happy?
Sometimes we feel we have a team but in the real sense, it is a huge mob that we have. There is a huge difference between a team and a mob.
The mere essence of having many people as part of your “team” is to make work easier. That is the point. But this is not the case among many entities. In some, the more people you have, the more problems you have.
The moment you find yourself (as a team leader), spending more time-solving problems among your “team”, other than them focusing on your clientele, you have a mob.
The moment you find yourself holding a “staff meeting” daily, and all you do is complaining about performance and individuals, you have a mob. Not a team.
The moment you find yourself begging for assignments or tasks that the human beings who work for or with you know that they should deliver, but you have to fight first, my friend, that is not a team, it is a mob.
Now, what is a mob when it comes to a place of work? A mob is a group of human beings who work and live under the illusion of a “team” but and present themselves as “single entities” with different goals.
A mob is like a motivational speaker, who talks too much with little to show for it. You will talk to them, they will vigorously shake their heads as people who have understood, then settle and do their own mathogomanio.

Deadlines are key at the workplace. Many clients love people who meet deadlines. Members of your “team” should never compromise deadlines. Those who do, hate the business and are members of a mob.
Now, what is a team? A team is a group of who come together for a common goal. A team works in unison and knows exactly what is needed of them.
According to academicians, teamwork is a noun that refers to a combined action of a group, especially when they are effective and efficient.
The keywords here are ‘combined effort’, ‘effective and efficient. Therefore, for a group to be called a ‘team’ and for ‘teamwork’ to come out, there must be a ‘combined effort’ and the group must be ‘effective and efficient.’
A team has a goal. Has a plan that they know is a principle guide towards achieving better results for whatever task they undertake. With a team, you don’t meet to fight, you meet to talk and reflect on met targets.
So, my friend, do you have a team or a huge mob?
