Facebook Is Changing Its Name To Meta

Social media giant, Facebook, is changing its name to Meta amid a series of exposés that have threatened its existence. Many users are, however, not excited.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the name is supposed to reflect the company’s goals to be a leading metaverse which he says is the future of the internet.

“I think we are basically moving from being Facebook first to being metaverse first… Over time, I hope we’re seen as a metaverse company,” said Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg says he started thinking about changing the name immediately after acquiring WhatsApp and Instagram.

Here is part of Mark Zuckerberg’s letter after the rebrand:

“The next platform will be even more immersive—and embodied internet where you’re in the experience, not just looking at it. We call this the metaverse, and it will touch every product we build.”

“The defining quality of the metaverse will be a feeling of presence—like you are right there with another person or in another place.”

“In the metaverse, you’ll be able to do almost anything you can imagine—get together with friends and family, work, learn, play, shop, create—as well as completely new experiences that don’t really fit how we think about computers or phones today.”

“In this future, you will be able to teleport instantly as a hologram to be at the office without a commute, at a concert with friends, or in your parent’s living room to catch up.”

“Your TV, your perfect work setup with multiple monitors, your board games, and more—instead of physical things assembled in factories, they’ll be holograms designed by creators around the world.”

Of late, Facebook has been under attack from former employees who have now turned into whistleblowers exposing the past sins of the company.

Some feel Mark Zuckerberg is rebranding to run away from his past but add that it is a miscalculated move.

That aside, starting December, your Facebook will officially trade as META.
