Husband And Wife Jailed For Life For Selling Bhang

KEY POINTS

A Meru couple has been sentenced to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of trafficking bhang worth 3 million shillings.

Kenya is an interesting country. Leaders caught on camera shooting people in the neck are still walking free. Some accused of killing a pregnant woman are still in office and even want to run for President but those selling bhang are jailed for life.

There have been calls for Kenya to legalize the use of marijuana for medicinal value. Those against it say that Kenya is a Christian nation. Which Christian? Corruption, rape, murder by those in power but legalizing bhang is where we remember we are Christians?

That aside, a Meru couple has been sentenced to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of trafficking bhang worth 3 million shillings. The irony as those who have stolen billions from our public coffers walk freely and sit in big offices.

Meru Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Muraguri also fined James Muthiora, alias, Karinta, and his wife Fridah Karimi 4.5 million shillings. Should they default, they will spend an additional five years in prison.

The magistrate said the prosecution had proved that the two were found in possession of 103 kilograms of bhang worth 3,090,000 shillings at their Kooje estate home.

Mr. Muraguri, however, acquitted three others -Mr. Timothy Kinoti Kariaci, Mr. Joseph Ekeno Ekeno, and Jacob Githae Mukunyu- for insufficient evidence over November 1, 2018 incident.

Mr. Muraguri, however, gave the couple 14 days within which they could appeal the sentence. Their lawyer Kiogora Mugambi said they were dissatisfied with the judgment and declared intention to appeal the sentence, terming it harsh.

It seems in Kenya, if you must sell drugs, then sell the hard one. Sell cocaine etc. Forget about marijuana because you will be jailed for life. And you must steal, then steal billions from the National Treasury itself. Even the judge will respect you.
