In July 2020, Safaricom, in partnership with Google launched the Lipa Mdogo Mdogo payment plan, which allows customers who earn a daily wage to access low-cost 4G smartphones for a deposit of 1000 shillings and a daily installment of 20 shillings.
The Lipa Mdogo Mdogo offering was to help customers who meet a simple criterion enjoy being online while having up to 12 months to pay up.

For Safaricom PostPay customers, they offer additional destinations for international calling and they also unveil a smartphone financing model where customers can get a device as part of their PostPay plan.
The Safaricom Lipa Mdogo Mdogo model offers voice, SMS, and data bundles as a package to the device financing model for PostPay customers who pays a monthly package.
Some of the Smartphones on offer include Neon Ray Pro, Samsung Galaxy A10s, Samsung Galaxy A20s, Nokia C2, Samsung Galaxy A01, Oppo A1K, Nokia 2.3 among others. The devices are also available at all Safaricom Retail outlets countrywide.
At the same time, customers can now choose from three additional devices including iTel A24, TECNO Spark 7, and TECNO CAMON 17.
2G users are able to access 4G devices through the Lipa Mdogo Mdogo financing project available through the Neon Ray Pro, currently retailing at 5,999 shillings.
To qualify for this service, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be using a 2G or 3G smartphone
- You must not be listed on CRB for pending loans
- You must have been a Safaricom customer for 1 year
- Users must be above the age of 18
Eligible customers will opt-in for the service using the USSD code *544#, allowing Safaricom to check their eligibility, based on their interactions with the provider.
Customers who are successful in accessing the service need to give a down payment of 1000 shillings and have the freedom to pay the balance within 12 months.
If you are consistent with your 20 shillings payments daily, you will be able to clear the balance in 9 months. The more you pay the faster you clear your payment balance
