TSC Set To Employ P1 Graduates Without A Diploma, Check If You Qualify

Good news to all teachers across the country as the Teachers Service Commission, TSC, breaks silence on the fate of P1 teachers in this country.

Since the introduction of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) the ministry of education has been rushing against the clock to ensure that the new education system known has been put in place as scheduled by the education stakeholders.

In addition, the ministry of education is also working hard to ensure that the secondary schools have accommodated the great number of the students who are expected to join in form one following the 100 percent transition which is going to take place.

The TSC will deploy 36,341 teachers who have acquired higher qualifications to teach at lower secondary schools to meet the staffing needs following the roll-out of the new curriculum.

P1 teachers who hold Diplomas, Higher Diplomas, undergraduate Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters, and PHDs will be deployed in the junior secondary schools. P1 teachers who hold P1 Certificates will be employed in Primary School

TSC said it requires at least 10 billion shillings to finance main and important programs. Top on its priority list is the recruitment of new teachers and promotions of existing teachers.

This was revealed via a document submitted to the National Assembly Committee on Education on consideration of the Budget Statement Policy, 2022.

In the documents, TSC Boss Nancy Macharia said the commission requires some 5.3 billion shillings to recruit 8,000 teachers for the 100 percent transition. CEO Macharia said the monies are part of the critical areas, which were not funded in the last budget.

“The commission would appreciate any facilitation for these areas to receive some allocation,” said Macharia.

“Teacher mentorship and coaching program require an estimated Sh50 million while the rollout of a national Biometric Enrolment and Validation of tutors will be done at a cost of Sh342.4 million,” she said.

The commission wants the facilitation of Sh600 million for gratuity to 3,358 contract teachers in the Northern frontier and the construction of additional county office accommodation estimated at a cost of 183.6 million shillings.

During the resource sharing at the Sector Working Group, the commission said it was allocated Sh295.9 billion for recurrent expenditure against a projected requirement of 310.5 billion shillings. On development expenditure, the allocation was 656.4 million against a projected requirement of 1.14 billion shillings.
