List Of Governor Aspirants EACC Wants Locked Out Of Running Over Corruption

KEY POINTS
There are so many aspirants with questionable character who are running in this election. The EACC says it has handed over the names to the IEBC and now the ball lies with the IEBC. Will the IEBC go to bed with the corrupt?
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Some of the top names mentioned by the EACC include Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Dr. Evans Kidero (Homa Bay), and Mike Mbuvi Sonko (Mombasa).
The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has sent a list of various political contestants to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) asking for them to be barred from running due to integrity issues.
The first one is Dr. Evans Kidero who wants to be the Governor of Homabay. Kidero was the first Governor of Nairobi County for five years. He is currently running as an independent candidate.

“The Commission received and investigated allegations of impropriety, corruption, and an economic crime against the aspirant while serving as the Governor, Nairobi City County to which he was elected in 2013. Some of the allegations investigated included irregular payment of 28 million shillings to a private company associated with the aspirant’s brother. Another payment of 68,000,000 shillings to a law firm and a private company which later transferred the money to a private company associated with the Aspirant,” said EACC.

Another one is Anne Waiguru, the current Governor for Kirinyaga County. Waiguru is not new to the corruption scene having been associated with the massive looting of the National Youth Service (NYS) when she was a Cabinet Secretary.

“The Commission received allegations that the Aspirant abused her office by irregular receipt of travel impress amounting to Kshs. 10,634,614/= for trips that were non-existent or not official. The investigation established culpability on the part of the aspirant and a recommendation to charge made,” EACC said about Waiguru.

Mike Mbuvi Sonko is also on the list of individuals who should be barred from running for public office. Sonko wants to be the Governor of Mombasa County. He was the second Governor of Nairobi before he was impeached by the County Government and the Senate.

“By a resolution made on Thursday, 17th December 2020, pursuant to Article 181 of the Constitution, section 33 of the County Governments Act (2012) and Standing Order 75 of the Senate Standing Orders, Senate resolved to remove from office, by way of impeachment, the Aspirant on charges of (1) Gross Violation of the Constitution or any other law; (2) Abuse of Office; (3) Gross Misconduct; and (4) Crimes under National Law,” EACC said on Mike Sonko.
Others who the EACC says should not be allowed to run for Governor positions over integrity issues are Mwangi Daniel Waithaka for Nyandarua County, Ali Buno Korane for Garissa County, and Godhana Dhadho Gaddae for Tana River County. Chitavi Anthony Mkhala and Adhi Godana Doyo for Mombasa and Isiolo counties are also on the list.
