We Shouldn’t Entertain Change Of Presidential Term Limits

KEY POINTS

The idea is to make this proposal a Bill, use the numbers in parliament, pass it, then use Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to rig the referendum, and before we know it, the Constitution will be changed.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

The President shall hold office for a term beginning on the date on which the President was sworn in, and ending when the person next elected President in accordance with Article 136 (2) (a) is sworn in.

(2) A person shall not hold office as President for more than two terms.

News that Members of Parliament affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are working on a proposal to do away with the presidential term limit and replace it with the age of the contenders is not only sickening but a terrible idea.

The fact that a Member of Parliament, elected on the slogan of Bottom-Up and the Hustler Movement sat down, less than two months in office to about the proposal shows that the forest changed but the monkeys are the same but more vicious than their predecessors.

Article 142 of the Constitution of Kenya (1) says that the President shall hold office for a term beginning on the date on which the President was sworn in, and ending when the person next elected President in accordance with Article 136 (2) (a) is sworn in (2) A person shall not hold office as President for more than two terms.

Sources say the UDA MPs want to repeal the term limits and then have the age of someone to run for President of Kenya curbed at 75 years. With William Ruto aged 55, the idea is to make him rule for at least 20 years, going back to where Moi handed over.

Sources say the idea is to make this proposal a Bill, use the numbers in parliament, pass it, then use Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to rig the referendum, and before we know it, the Constitution will be changed.

This proposal, coming from human beings who were so opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) saying it was an initiative to make people overstay in power is even more ridiculous, disgusting, and a middle finger to the millions who voted for this regime.

They promised to reduce the price of unga from 250 shillings to 80 shillings in the first 100 days, promised to cut the cost of electricity in the first 100 days, and promised to make the environment better for small businesses in Kenya, but, what are we seeing? Unga is still up. KPLC now takes 61 percent of your money before giving you tokens.

But all in all, let us have a morning devotion and pray over it.
