KNEC Issues New Guidelines, Bans The Following Items During Exams

On Wednesday, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued new guidelines that candidates sitting for this year’s national examinations, KCPE and KCSE exams are expected to adhere to, in an attempt to curb cheating.

KNEC released a statement that outlined specific items that are banned from exam rooms as it prepares itself to preside over the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams set to begin on October 30 and October 23 respectively.

KNEC specified the items that candidates are not allowed to have in the examination rooms, which include wristwatches and programmable calculators. Bags, briefcases, backpacks, and kiddos are also strictly prohibited.

Additionally, electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart watches, headphones, tablets, body cameras, camera pens, and Bluetooth-capable devices are banned from the exam rooms.

KNEC outlined specific items that are prohibited from exam rooms. These include; wristwatches and programmable calculators. They also prohibited clothing, footwear, or materials with handwritten notes.

KNEC emphasized its vigilance in preventing candidates from having any writings on their bodies, except for declared tattoos, which are exempted from the list of prohibited materials.

‘’Maintain your integrity and refrain from sharing exam-related information on social media,’’ the council stated.

According to the agency, it expects candidates to be honest and maintain integrity throughout the exams. Candidates will also be required to report for their exams on time which will enhance the timeliness and reduce anxiety.

The Council recommended that candidates use their cell phones at home but not during examinations. In closing, KNEC expressed its confidence in diligently preparing and securing the examinations

‘’Trust that KNEC has diligently prepared and secured the exams,’’ the Council concluded.
