Dr. James Mwangi Leaves Meru University, Peter Ndegwa Takes Over

Dr. James Mwangi, the CEO of Equity Bank Group has left Meru University as Chancellor following the expiry of his tenure after playing a major role in steering the institution to be among the reputable ones in the country.

In the past 10 years, Meru University of Science and Technology has witnessed tremendous growth academically and a steadfast commitment to fostering an environment of innovation and inclusivity.

Under the guidance of Dr. James Mwangi, the Founding Chancellor, the University has become a beacon of academic distinction in the country – Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education and Research, Ministry of Education, Kenya at the Inauguration Ceremony of Peter Ndegwa as the second Chancellor of Meru University.

Dr. James Mwangi, Equity Group CEO and MD hands over the mantle of Chancellor at the Meru University of Science and Technology to Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom PLC CEO after serving the institution for 10 years as Founding Chancellor. Dr Mwangi was last year appointed by President William Ruto as the inaugural Chancellor of The Open University of Kenya.

Peter Ndegwa has officially assumed the role of Chancellor at the  Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST), taking over from Dr. James Mwangi.

Taking to social media platform X after the official inauguration ceremony, Ndegwa expressed enthusiasm for his new role, emphasising his commitment to furthering the university’s mission.

“It’s truly a privilege to take on this role, and I am humbled by the responsibility entrusted to me by the university. As I embark on this new journey, I am filled with a sense of purpose and dedication to advancing the mission of Meru University of Science and Technology,” he said.
