Extreme Temperatures, Annoying Fat Mosquitoes Hit Nairobi

There is an explosion of huge mosquitoes that have invaded homes, hungry for blood with irritating sounds. These small and hungry vampires are wreaking havoc in most households within the city.

The temperatures in Nairobi have become extremely unbearable both during the day and at night. On Friday last week, the highest temperatures during the day were 31 degrees, and at night at 24 degrees. On Saturday, the highest temperatures hit 33 degrees.

Some places within the city recorded 34 degrees on Sunday, and on Monday 29 degrees. The average temperatures during the night have been oscillating between 20 and 25 degrees. Kenya Meteorological Department has not issued an official statement but an official we contacted said this is just the beginning.

Given that most of the trees in Nairobi have been cut, turning the once greeny city into a concrete jungle, the rays from the sun are hitting the surface as they come with no buffer between them leaving many residents uncomfortable and sweaty.

The heat is so much that when one visits the bathroom, they come out sweating. Medical experts are calling on Kenyans to remain hydrated at all times and those with easily irritable skin to walk around with sunscreens.

And it is not just the heat that is a nuisance. There is an explosion of huge mosquitoes that have invaded homes, hungry for blood with irritating sounds. These small and hungry vampires are wreaking havoc in most households within the city.

An expert from the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) told us that although Nairobi is still malaria-free, the current mutation of mosquitoes which seem to multiply more with heat contrary to when it used to be during a rainy season is worrying.

The heat has also hit many parts of the country. Some think there might be a huge amount on rain on the way that might beat that that hit the country in January. All eyes are now on Kenya Met to make their predictions that somehow sometimes comes true.
