Shalina Healthcare Expands Into The Consumer Market

Shalina Healthcare, a leading pharmaceutical company with a strong presence across Africa, is set to achieve a significant milestone this Friday with the official launch of its expanded portfolio into the Over-the-Counter (OTC) and consumer healthcare markets. This event will not only celebrate the company’s remarkable achievements but also underscore its unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare across the continent.
Expanding Horizons in Kenya
Vikas Khandelwal, Vice President and Business Head for East Africa at Shalina Healthcare Ltd, shared insights into the company’s transformative journey in Kenya. Since commencing operations in 2018, following the acquisition of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company (PMC), Shalina has steadily introduced world-class brands, particularly in key therapeutic areas such as dermatology and pain management.
Shalina’s expansion reached new heights in 2022 with the acquisition of Orange Pharma Limited, further strengthening its footprint in Kenya. This strategic move catapulted Shalina Healthcare into the ranks of the top five pharmaceutical companies in the country, enhancing its capacity to cater to the diverse healthcare needs of Kenyans.
Introducing Innovative Consumer Healthcare Solutions
The highly anticipated launch of Shalina’s Consumer Division in 2024 will bring globally recognized brands to the Kenyan market. Among these is Germol, a personal hygiene care brand that has already made a significant impact across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Another key highlight is the introduction of the Monalisa brand—an exclusive line of body lotions and creams specially formulated for African skin. Having recently been honored as the “Best Moisturizer Brand of the Year 2024” by FMCG Brands, Monalisa represents Shalina’s dedication to delivering premium quality and effective skincare solutions.
Celebrating Acquisitions and Local Impact
In addition to unveiling new products, the event will spotlight Shalina’s acquisition of popular household brands such as Kaluma, Sonamoja, and Sonadol. These well-established brands position Shalina Healthcare as a leading player in Kenya’s pharmaceutical landscape, reinforcing its commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and affordability for millions.
With headquarters at Shalina House in Babadogo, along Thika Road, the company employs over 200 individuals, supporting an extensive sales and marketing network that spans the country.
Vikas Khandelwal emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, “Our sustained growth in Kenya is a testament to our dedication to improving healthcare outcomes while creating valuable job opportunities. As we continue to expand, we remain steadfast in our commitment to quality, affordability, and availability, ensuring that we make a positive impact on healthcare across Africa.”
This launch marks a significant chapter in Shalina Healthcare’s journey, showcasing its commitment to innovation and delivering high-quality, affordable healthcare solutions to the African market.
