Safaricom Sensitises Migori Residents On Fraud, Loan Facilities, And Offers As M-Pesa Soko Caravan Hits The Western Road

Safaricom has taken its customer engagement initiative to Migori County, as the M-Pesa Sokoni Caravan hits the road on its Day 1 in Western Kenya.

As a kick-off, the team focused on educating residents on a wide range of services aimed at enhancing financial literacy, fraud awareness, and access to affordable mobile solutions.

The outreach forms part of the telco’s ongoing efforts to bring its services closer to Kenyans, promote digital inclusion, and create awareness of the growing number of benefits within the Safaricom ecosystem.

During the event, Safaricom teams on the ground held sessions with local customers to sensitize them on how to detect and avoid mobile fraud, a rising concern in today’s increasingly digital world. Residents were taught how to identify scam messages and suspicious calls, with emphasis placed on protecting their M-PESA accounts and personal information.

In addition to fraud education, the Safaricom team introduced the locals to various loan facilities such as Zidisha (Zidii), a platform that enables customers to access small loans through their mobile phones. By demystifying the loan application process, the team hoped to empower more people in Migori, especially small-scale traders and farmers, to tap into the credit facilities for business growth and personal development.

The youth were not left behind. Safaricom conducted training on Safaricom Hook, a youth-centric platform that offers exclusive rewards, career opportunities, and digital content. Local youth were encouraged to join and start reaping the benefits of the platform, which also serves as a pipeline to digital skills and empowerment opportunities.

Customers were also educated on Tunukiwa Plus, a special offer that allows eligible users to access integrated packages comprising data bundles, call minutes, and SMS for as low as Ksh 20. Those eligible for the offer also stood a chance to get the affordable Neon Ultra smartphone, further bridging the smartphone penetration gap in rural areas.

In a gesture of appreciation, Safaricom awarded first-time customers and active participants with various giveaways, including t-shirts, airtime, and – in a uniquely local touch – live chickens, adding a fun and personal flair to the outreach.

Through these engagements, Safaricom reaffirmed its commitment to empowering communities, deepening customer trust, and ensuring no one is left behind in the digital revolution.
