NPSC Announces Recruitment Of Police Officers, Requirements, Dates And How To Apply

BY Getrude Mathayo · September 19, 2025 12:09 pm

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has officially announced the commencement of a large-scale recruitment exercise aimed at enlisting 10,000 qualified Kenyans to serve as police constables.

The announcement comes just days after the commission presented its comprehensive recruitment and staffing plans for the 2025/2026 financial year before the National Assembly’s Committee on Internal Security.

In a public notice issued on Friday, September 19, the NPSC revealed that the recruitment process will take place across the country between October 3 and October 9, 2025. The exercise is expected to attract thousands of young Kenyans seeking to serve in the National Police Service, a critical arm of the country’s security framework.

“Pursuant to the Constitution of Kenya, Articles 260(3), 246(4), 243, 236 (d)10, of the National Police Service Commission Act, Cap 85 and the National Police Service Act, Cap B4, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons to be trained as Police Constables,” the notice partly read.

While unveiling the recruitment drive, the commission issued a stern warning against corruption and malpractices, which have historically tainted recruitment exercises in the police service. The NPSC emphasized that bribery, favoritism, or attempts to influence the recruitment process in any way would not be tolerated.

Individuals found engaging in corrupt practices risk facing disciplinary action, including arrest and prosecution. Additionally, applicants who provide false or misleading information during the process will be deemed to have committed a criminal offence, punishable by a fine of up to Ksh200,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.

The commission further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and report any cases of malpractice to the nearest police station or through hotlines 0709090000, 999, 911, 112, or 0800722203.

Key Requirements for Applicants

The NPSC has outlined strict eligibility criteria for Kenyans wishing to apply for the advertised police constable positions. Among the key requirements are:

  1. Applicants must be Kenyan citizens and possess a valid Kenyan National Identity Card.
  2. Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old.
  3. A minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) is required, with at least a D in English and Kiswahili.
  4. Candidates must be physically fit, with a minimum height of 5 feet 8 inches for men and 5 feet 3 inches for women.
  5. Applicants must have no criminal record or pending criminal charges.
  6. Female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment and at the point of entry into training.

The commission also noted that graduates of the National Youth Service (NYS) who meet the minimum requirements are particularly encouraged to apply, adding that such candidates often bring valuable discipline and skills to the police service.

Application Process

Interested applicants have been directed to obtain application forms through multiple channels. The forms can be downloaded from official websites, including:

  1. Npsc.go.ke
  2. dci .ke
  3. administrationpolice.go.ke
  4. kenyapolice.go.ke
  5. nationalpolice.go.ke
  6. mygov.go.ke

For those unable to access the forms online, physical copies will be made available at Huduma Centres across the country.

On the day of recruitment, applicants must present themselves at the designated recruitment centres within their respective constituencies. They are required to carry both original and photocopies of the following documents:

  1. Academic certificates and testimonials
  2. Kenyan National Identity Card
  3. Birth Certificate
  4. NYS discharge certificate (for NYS graduates) with at least a “GOOD” conduct rating

The NPSC assured applicants that all original documents would be returned to them immediately after verification at the recruitment centres.

The recruitment exercise will run from October 3 to October 9, 2025, with activities scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily. The exercise will be conducted across all counties, ensuring that each constituency has a designated recruitment centre to give equal opportunity to eligible Kenyans countrywide.

This mass recruitment is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the capacity of the National Police Service, improve the police-to-citizen ratio, and enhance national security amid rising demands for law enforcement.

By bringing in 10,000 new officers, the NPSC aims to bridge staffing gaps, ensure effective policing, and prepare the service to handle emerging security threats both in urban centres and rural areas.
