A cloud of sadness and confusion has fallen over St. Philips Day Mixed Secondary School in Kirinyaga County after one of its candidates missed his first Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination under strange circumstances.

Wycliffe Muthii, a Form Four student known for his discipline and hard work, had woken up early on Monday morning ready to face the most important day of his school life. He prepared his tea, packed his pens, and left his parents’ home in Kiaga Village, Kanyekiine Ward, at around six in the morning. His parents, Julius Wamugunda and Mercy Wambura, watched him leave full of hope that he would make them proud.

A few hours later, their joy turned into worry when the school called to ask where their son was. Teachers said the examination was about to begin but Wycliffe had not arrived. The news shocked the parents, who had seen him, leave home just a short while earlier. Concerned teachers even went to the family’s home to confirm whether he had fallen ill or turned back.

Panic spread through Kiaga Village as residents learned that the young student was missing. Relatives, led by his aunt Roselyn Warui, quickly organized a search and reported the matter to local police stations. What followed was a long day of anxiety and prayer as the family hoped for good news.

Later that day, their fears turned into disbelief when word came that Wycliffe had been found in Makuyu, Murang’a County, far from his home and school. A Good Samaritan had discovered him in a confused state and taken him to Makuyu Police Station. It is suspected that he was drugged by unknown people while on his way to school.

The incident has left his parents devastated. They cannot understand why anyone would want to harm their son, especially on such an important day in his life. Police in both Kirinyaga and Murang’a have launched investigations to uncover what happened and to ensure justice for the young student.

As the other candidates continue with their exams, the people of Kiaga Village are still trying to come to terms with the shocking event that robbed one of their own of a dream he had worked so hard for.
