5 Things You Can Do To Save Money In 2026 As A Kenyan

BY Juma · January 2, 2026 11:01 am

It is 2026. January has started. The longest month in the minds of many. It is that time of the year when millions of Kenyans are now busy setting the resolutions for the new year, 99 percent of which they will never keep or follow.

How can you resolve to save money this year? I have 5 simple ways.

Stop treating other people’s emergencies as your own. Do not let someone’s failure to plan be your emergency. Be selfish with your money and only give where necessary. You cannot sweat to look for money only for someone to want it “urgently.”

Cut on your Black Tax. The fact that you share blood with someone does not mean that you should die so that they live. Only Jesus did that. Help where you can, but do not peel off your skin so that someone else can have a good life.

Have friends you can invest an evening with, not ones you can spend an evening with. Surround yourself with people who can build and grow you. Do not entertain people who are closer to you for their own survival, people who behave like ticks. Run.

Choose the right partner who will give you the peace you need to grow. If you are planning to get into a relationship this year, get the right person. Do not go for a person who will drain you mentally and financially. Without peace of mind, you cannot grow and make wealth.

It is okay if you cannot afford it. Let it go and try again another day. There is no shame in saying, “I cannot afford this right now. It is too expensive.” It is not a matter of life and death. If you cannot buy today, you can give it a shot tomorrow. Relax.
