BY Getrude Mathayo · March 3, 2026 10:03 am

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially reopened its online application portal, giving students another opportunity to secure placement into medical programmes at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) for the March 2026 intake.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, March 3, KUCCPS invited candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and attained a minimum grade of D (plain) and above to submit applications for a wide range of diploma and certificate courses in the health sciences field.

The move opens doors for thousands of young Kenyans aspiring to join the medical profession through KMTC’s expansive network of campuses across the country.

According to KUCCPS, the reopened application window is specifically targeting students who were not successful during the January 2026 intake. It also accommodates KCSE holders who may not have applied earlier but now wish to pursue medical training.

“This application targets Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) holders who have not been placed at KMTC, including those who applied in January 2026 but were not placed,” KUCCPS stated in its announcement.

The placement body emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance access to professional health training and to respond to the country’s increasing demand for qualified healthcare workers. Kenya continues to experience growing pressure on its health system, making the training of more professionals a national priority.

KUCCPS revealed that a total of 31 programmes under the health sciences cluster are available for the March 2026 intake. These courses are distributed across various KMTC campuses nationwide, allowing students from different regions to access training closer to home.

The programmes span critical medical and allied health disciplines at both diploma and certificate levels.

Diploma Programmes

Students applying for diploma courses can choose from an extensive list of specialized fields, including:

  1. Clinical Medicine and Surgery
  2. Mortuary Science
  3. Radiography and Imaging
  4. Medical Engineering
  5. Medical Laboratory Sciences
  6. Health Counselling
  7. Physiotherapy
  8. Community Health
  9. Nutrition and Dietetics

  11. Health Records and Information Technology
  12. Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine
  13. Emergency Medical Technology

These diploma programmes are designed to equip learners with in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in hospitals, laboratories, community health settings, and other healthcare facilities.

Courses such as Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Nursing-related programmes, Pharmacy, and Medical Laboratory Sciences remain among the most competitive due to high demand in both public and private health institutions. Meanwhile, emerging fields like Health Insurance Management and Health Records and Information Technology reflect the evolving needs of modern healthcare systems.

Certificate Programmes

For candidates seeking entry-level qualifications, several certificate courses are also open for application. These include:

  1. Medical Engineering
  2. Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine
  3. Health Records and Information Technology
  4. Health Insurance Management
  5. Emergency Medical Technician
  6. Community Health Assistant
  7. Nutrition and Dietetics

Certificate programmes offer foundational training and often serve as stepping stones for further academic and professional advancement within the health sector.

KUCCPS noted that reopening the portal aligns with government efforts to widen participation in technical and vocational training, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare. By lowering the minimum entry grade to D (plain) for certain courses, more students are able to pursue meaningful career paths in medical and health-related professions.

The placement agency underscored that expanding medical training capacity is essential in addressing shortages of healthcare professionals in various parts of the country, especially in rural and underserved regions.
