TSC Launches National Database Update For Unemployed Registered Teachers Ahead Of Planned Hiring Drive

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has called on all registered but currently unemployed teachers to take part in a nationwide data update exercise aimed at strengthening workforce planning and enhancing efficiency in the education sector.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, TSC announced that it has commenced the process of updating its records to ensure it maintains a comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date database of qualified teachers across the country.
The exercise specifically targets trained and registered educators who are not currently engaged in active employment. According TSC, the initiative is part of broader efforts to better understand the dynamics of teacher supply and demand in Kenya.
By collecting updated information from unemployed teachers, TSC hopes to obtain reliable data that will inform future recruitment strategies, deployment plans, and other policy decisions affecting the education system.
The commission emphasized that having accurate records will enable it to assess gaps in subject specializations, regional distribution, and overall availability of trained personnel. This data-driven approach, officials noted, is critical in ensuring that staffing decisions align with the needs of schools and learners across the country.
TSC further assured participants that all information collected during the exercise will be handled with strict confidentiality. “The updated data will be processed and stored in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act and the Privacy Notice of the Commission,” the statement read, underscoring its commitment to safeguarding personal information.
However, the commission was clear that the ongoing exercise is purely administrative in nature. It cautioned teachers against interpreting the update as a recruitment advertisement or a promise of employment. Participation in the data update process does not guarantee job placement, shortlisting, or immediate recruitment into the public teaching service.
Eligible teachers have been directed to submit their updated details through the commission’s official website, www.tsc.go.ke, by navigating to the “Careers” section. In addition, the commission has provided a direct profile update link to simplify the submission process for those who prefer quicker access.
The data collection window officially opened on March 3, 2026, and will run for approximately two weeks. The deadline for submission has been set for March 16, 2026, at midnight. Teachers have been urged to complete the process within the stipulated timeframe to ensure their information is captured in the updated database.
During the update, participants are required to provide key identification and registration details. These include their national identification card or passport number, TSC registration number, surname as it appears on their registration certificate, and an active mobile phone number for communication purposes.
Teachers are also encouraged to carefully review and, where necessary, correct their subject combinations and other professional details through the profile update option to ensure accuracy.
The development comes at a significant moment for the education sector. The government has recently announced plans to recruit 24,000 new teachers and to transition 46,000 existing teachers to permanent and pensionable terms. In this context, maintaining an updated pool of qualified and registered educators is seen as a crucial step in facilitating transparent and efficient staffing processes.
Ultimately, the commission says the exercise is designed to enhance strategic planning and ensure that future recruitment efforts are informed by reliable data. By strengthening its database, TSC aims to better respond to the evolving needs of the education system while promoting accountability and proper workforce management.
