NTSA Issues New Directives On Reflective Number Plates And Logbooks

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged Kenyans experiencing difficulties in the application and processing of reflective number plates and logbooks to utilize its centralized digital platform available on the official NTSA website.

The directive comes in response to growing public concern over prolonged delays in the issuance of these critical documents. In recent weeks, a significant number of motorists have voiced their frustrations on social media, citing persistent delays in receiving reflective number plates, smart driving licenses, and logbooks despite repeated follow-ups with the Authority

Many have complained that the process, which was initially intended to enhance vehicle identification and improve road safety, has instead caused inconvenience and uncertainty among vehicle owners.

Addressing the rising discontent, NTSA issued a public advisory on Monday, January 19, through its official social media channels, instructing affected motorists to lodge their complaints through the service status portal on ntsa.go.ke.

The Authority emphasized that the centralized system is designed to streamline the follow-up process and improve communication between NTSA and applicants.

According to NTSA, once a complaint is submitted through the portal, relevant officials will review the case, conduct necessary verification, and provide feedback to the applicant regarding the status of their documents. The Authority assured the public that all concerns would be handled systematically to minimize further delays.

In its statement posted on Facebook, NTSA apologized for the inconveniences caused by the delays, stating, “Kindly provide your details via this portal, service status.ntsa.go.ke. We will make a follow-up.” The Authority reiterated its commitment to resolving the backlog and improving service delivery.

Procedure for Checking the Status of Reflective Number Plates and Logbooks

NTSA also outlined the steps motorists should follow to check the status of their applications:

1. Applicants are required to visit the official NTSA website and navigate to the ‘Online Services’ section.
2. From there, they should click on the drop-down menu and select ‘Other Services.’
3. Under this category, users must proceed to the ‘Uncollected Driving Licence and Number Plates Menu.’
4. Motorists can then choose to search using either their vehicle registration number or logbook details.
5. After entering the required information, they should click the ‘Search’ button, followed by the ‘Request Follow-Up’ button to alert NTSA officials.

For those seeking updates on their smart driving licenses, NTSA directed applicants to enter their national ID number, while those checking on reflective number plates were instructed to use their vehicle registration number.

Despite these efforts, pressure continues to mount on NTSA as more motorists demand clarity and efficiency in the processing of reflective plates and related documents.

Some Kenyans have called on the Authority to provide a comprehensive public update explaining the cause of the delays and outlining measures to prevent similar issues in the future.

Reports indicate that some applicants have waited for nearly a year to receive their reflective number plates, while many others have experienced delays ranging from three to six months. This has raised concerns about administrative inefficiencies and the need for improved service delivery within NTSA.
