Ten Factors To Consider While Relocating to a New Place

Everyone deserves a good life that includes a good house with a friendly environment. Almost everyone would love to relocate to a new place that is better than the current one. What are some of the factors you should consider before relocating to a new place? Here are 10 of them:
- Security
This should be your number one priority. It may seem crazy but it is good to carry out a ‘feasibility’ study of the area that you are intending to relocate. Find out how secure is the area. Ask the people who live around if the area is secure. Also, consider such things as police posts and the distance to a police station from where you are intending to relocate.
- Cleanliness
How clean is the place you are planning to relocate? Leaving in a clean environment should be a priority. Before relocating, find out how the people in that area dispose of their garbage. Is the area littered with garbage all over? How about the sewer system? Is it functioning or broken down?
- Water
Water is life. Before moving to a new place, you must find out if the place has a constant supply of clean and sufficient water. If the area relies on buying water from vendors, you better think twice before moving. However, with the current water rationing in Nairobi, many people do not give that much consideration to water.
- Distance from workplace
How far is the place you are moving is to your workplace? Are you going to spend more money on transport than you are spending currently? It is unwise to relocate to a place where you will be spending more days on transport than you already are.
- Health facilities
How far is the nearest health facility? In case of an emergency, can you or the member of your family be able to access health services on time? Move to a place where health facilities are at a close range. You don’t want to relocate to a place where to access the nearest health facility, you need a chopper because of the distance.
- Accessibility
How accessible is the area? Some areas have roads that are in a pathetic condition especially during rainy season. During rain, how is the drainage of the area? Does it flood? Are roads passable?
- Political violence
With the current political temperatures in the country, I would strongly advise you to find out if the area you are planning to relocate to is prone to political violence. Am sure you don’t want to move to a place where you will be inhaling teargas every now and then.
- The condition of the house
What is the condition of the house you are planning to move in? Is it old? How old? Does it have cracks? You don’t want to move into a house that has been earmarked for demolition.
- The ease of doing business
If you are a businessman, before relocating to a new place, find out how easy it is in terms of doing business.
- Proximity to a town or shopping mall.
