A company in China forced its employees to crawl on the street as a punishment for failing to meet the set year-end targets set by the company management.

The beauty supply company in eastern China reportedly demanded the humiliating display after the employees “failed to hit the year-end targets.”

As tens of workers crawled across the street, one of the employees walked ahead of them holding the company flag before the police intervened to stop the spectacle.

The footage sparked outrage within and without China with thousands terming it as an inhumane act. The company has been shut down by the authorities in China.

Across Africa, most Chinese companies have been blamed for mistreating their workers especially those that are not of Chinese descent. “If they can do this to their own people, you can imagine what they are or might be doing to us (Africans)”, someone said on Twitter.

Most African countries including Kenya have turned to China for loans, leading to numerous Chinese companies setting their bases in Africa. In Kenya, the Chinese have been blamed in the recent past for mistreating workers of Kenyan decent working at the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
