How to Start Wearing Make-Up Today on a Budget

Make-Up can be intimidating especially if you are a beginner and do not know what to get. If you want to start your Make-Up journey but don’t know where to start, then this post will hopefully help you.

  1. Primer

A good primer prepares your skin for makeup and helps you improve coverage. It also helps lengthen the amount of time the makeup stays on your face.

My ultimate favorite primer of all days is the Black Opal True Color Perfecting Primer. It is so smooth on application and can be used independently even without foundation because it leaves your face glowing.

  1. Foundation

Foundation can really improve and turn your whole appearance. There are numerous foundations in the Kenyan market now and the trick is to find what best works for you and also finding genuine products.

I would recommend a few foundations that are really affordable such as L.A Girl, Maybelline, and Revlon. Revlon is my favorite out of these because it is really light on the skin, it is matte (best for oily skin) and you can wear it bare without needing a setting powder.

The Revlon Foundation goes for only 1,800 shillings, L.A Girl goes for about 1,000 shillings while Maybelline goes for about 1,500 shillings.

  1. Setting Powder

After foundation application, you need to set it with a good powder to avoid a transfer by keeping your foundation in place.

I recommend L.A girl powders that are really cheap but do an amazing job at setting foundation. At only 750 shillings, you are able to set your foundation with good quality and legit product.

  1. Brow Pencil

For a complete and tidy look on your Make-Up, it is important to shape your eyebrows. This is possibly the cheapest product you will have in your kit.

The Davis eye pencil goes for only 50 shillings a piece and it is really effective in shaping brows. I recommend using Number 18 or Number 3 depending on your preference.

  1. Mascara

Mascara plays an important role in completing your look. You may not want to have it on every day but it is definitely a product worth having in your basic kit.

My ultimate favorite is the Maybelline Big Lash Mascara which goes for only 1,200 shillings. It gives your eyelashes volume and gives your eyes that pop.

  1. Brushes

The basic brushes that I recommend are the foundation and powder brushes. Most brushes in the Kenyan market might be a bit expensive so the alternative is purchasing the Real technique brushes online that are very effective.

A set goes for around 1,500 shillings on Amazon. Better still, if you have a friend in the States, you could have them buy you the brushes the next time they are traveling to Kenya.
